aemi Rough Cut session – March 2021

31 March 2021 / / Online Event

aemi is delighted to present a new series of Rough Cut events in 2021 as part of our Artist Support programme. Rough Cut offers artists who work with the moving image the opportunity to share works-in-progress in a supportive peer environment. The first series of these events took place online over the course of the summer of 2020.

Two artist filmmakers present work at each event and we invite a guest curator/programmer/critic or producer to act as a lead responder and give feedback to the artists’ works-in-progress on topics specific to each presentation, such as concept development, production methodologies, exhibition strategies, etc. The events have a small audience in attendance on Zoom and the conversation is opened out to the group. Because the work being discussed/presented is still in process, Rough Cut events aren’t recorded for public presentation.

Film artists Alasdair Asmussen Doyle and Amanda Rice will present work at this upcoming March Rough Cut event, and the lead responder will be Mark Williams, Director/ Curator/ Founder of CIRCUIT Artist Film and Video Aotearoa New Zealand.

If you’re a film artist/ producer/ curator and have an interest in attending Rough Cut in the future, contact us at [email protected]

Amanda Rice is a moving image and sculptural practitioner born in Mayo, Ireland, based in London. She is an MA graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art (2018). Recent shows include ‘Goingaway.tv’ at Arebyte Gallery, London, ‘No One Can Ever Embargo the Sun’ at M8 Space, Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland (Solo). In 2019 she was awarded the Arts Council of Ireland Next Generation Award for 2019.

Alasdair Asmussen Doyle is an artist and researcher currently based in Belfast, where he is undertaking a PhD at the Belfast School of Art. Alasdair’s practice employs moving-image and filmic heritage to navigate multiple relations of physical places and films. Combining contemporary theories of landscape with early shooting instruments, the artist creates works that negotiate hybrid geographical positions.

Mark Williams is Director/Curator/Founder of CIRCUIT Artist Film and Video Aotearoa New Zealand, an arts agency which supports New Zealand artists working in the moving image through commissioning of works, distribution, critical review and professional practice initiatives.
