aemi is delighted to announce their programme for CIFF 2023:

Three Quarters (2015) by Kevin Jerome Everson.

We at aemi are of course delighted to be working again this year with Cork International Film Festival. Our programme screens as part of Parallax, a strand that focuses on the Festival’s long-running interest in artist film and experimental approaches. As always we continue to be impressed with CIFF’s commitment to creating space and a platform for this area of practice. We are particularly excited this year that we will be joined at the festival by the celebrated and prolific filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson. Kevin will give a free masterclass at the festival on Saturday 18th. We will also screen a selection of Kevin’s films on Sunday the 19th.

Featured artists in aemi’s programme this year include Jamie Crewe, Lisa Freeman, Laida Lertxundi, Niall Cullen, Jodie Mack, Kevin Jerome Everson, Ross McClean, Luis Arnías, and Amanda Rice.

Highlights of the programme include the masterclass with acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson, the premiere of the aemi SIRIUS Commission 2023 by artist Lisa Freeman, and the launch of Spirit Messages, aemi’s new touring programme.

Kevin Jerome Everson Masterclass

aemi’s international artist in focus at CIFF is the acclaimed and prolific filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson. This masterclass offers audiences an in-depth introduction to the artist’s influences and methodology. Having been trained in photography and engaged also in printmaking and sculpture, before turning to the medium of analog film in the late 1990’s, Everson has carried over the approach of creating bodies of work shaped around particular formal devices within his filmmaking practice. Here he will discuss the processes, procedures and materials used in his moving image practice over the past two decades. He will also discuss recurring subjects, themes and formal strategies represented in the work.
