Published date: 11 Aug 2026
Applications for the Animation MA at IADT for the coming academic year (2026-27) remain open until the beginning of September.
The MA runs over 18 months and offers an opportunity for experimentation and creative/professional development, through a blend of animation practice and scholarly research. The Programme team welcomes applications from recent graduates, industry professionals, independent creators, as well as candidates from a range of related disciplinary backgrounds.
Who can apply?
Students with a Level 8 qualification or RPL (to include completed postgraduate study in related Art and Design areas or postgraduate experience working in the animation industry). We also envisage learners coming from other discipline areas, with a strong interest in relating their expertise to animation-related practice.
IADT welcomes applications from candidates working in an artist-film context. Applications should include proposals for original projects based in any area within the constantly evolving field of animation. More detail available at https://iadt.ie/courses/ma-
We at aemi are always struck by the innovation and ambition in experimental animation across Ireland, noted especially at First Cut Youth Film Festival 2026. First Cut Youth Film Festival provides young filmmakers between the ages of 12 and 24 with a platform for screening their short films. It is committed to fostering the creative development of young filmmakers from every background and provides a broad range of programming from animation workshops and screenings for primary school students right up to events aimed at emerging filmmakers entering the film industry in their early twenties.
We look forward to seeing more exciting work from young animators in the near future.
