In collaboration with GAZE Film Festival aemi presents ‘Joy Boy: A Tribute To Julius Eastman’ which sees six filmmakers come together to pay cinematic tribute to the transcendent music, queer activism, and vibrant spirituality of African American composer, performer, and activist Julius Eastman (1940–1990). Originally a classically trained pianist, Eastman became a central figure in New York’s experimental music scene in the late 1970s. His music is known for its slow, cumulative structure, often bearing politically charged titles such as Evil N**** and Gay Guerrilla, marking both a radical compositional stance and an uncompromising political gesture.

Aileen Ye is a film director and writer from Dublin exploring contemporary subcultures and body politics. Her films have internationally screened at festivals including BFI London Film Festival, IFFR, SXSW London, and exhibited at art institutions such as the Barbican, ICA, LUX, FACT Liverpool, Art Rotterdam, and esea Contemporary. In 2023/24, she won Best International Short Documentary for ‘Midnight Rising’ at Dublin IFF, and was a resident curator for Eye Filmmuseum. In 2022, she was mentored by A24. She has worked with NOWNESS Asia, Sevdaliza, and more.

Victoire Karera Kampire (1990) is a Rwandan-Belgian director, sound designer and curator. At the heart of her artistic quest, is the notion of absence, filling her films – places of hallucinated archives and experimentation at the border of documentary and fiction – with ghostly presences. Music and sound are core component of her practice, functioning as structural forces and epistemological sources. Working and exploring beyond the single screen experience, she also creates video installations for theater and for exhibition spaces.
In parallel to her filmmaking practice, Victoire Karera K. has worked as a documentary research assistant on Johan Grimonprez’s last feature film “Soundtrack to a Coup d’Etat” ( Sundance winner and Oscar nominated).
Her next documentary, “Ejo”, produced by Atelier Graphoui is in development ( RIDM Doc Lab project).
She is currently one of the 24-26 associated artists of the Beursschouwburg.  Her work include : Alberta’s Room (2023) – SCAM Prize @Brussels Art Film Festival ;  Untiteled (work in progress) (2026) – Beursschouwburg ; it is like a finger pointing a way to the moon (2024) in collab with Moya Michael – KVS/WIELS  ; Joy Boy, A tribute to Julius Eastman (2024-2026) in collab with Collectif Faire-Part, Fallon Mayanja et Mawena Yahouessi – deSingle / Netwerk Aaalst/  76th Berlin International Film Festival.
