Fingal Arts Office, in partnership with aemi, recently hosted an insightful Masterclass hosted by film artists Fiona Hallinan and Michelle Malone.
The event took place at The Carnegie, Swords, on Wednesday 28th October, as part of the ongoing How Do You Do? artist development programme.
The evening provided local artists and filmmakers with a unique opportunity to explore creative methodologies centered on lived experience, testimony, and memory.
Event Highlights:
Film Screenings: Attendees viewed Fiona Hallinan’s Making Dust (2023), a powerful portrait of the demolition of the Church of the Annunciation in Finglas, alongside Michelle Malone’s Great Uncle Joe (2021), which utilises moving archival images to evoke her late uncle’s childhood.
Practical Workshop: Following the screenings, the film artists co-facilitated a session focusing on the interview process, emphasising listening, questioning, documenting, and editing as core artistic research tools.
This masterclass forms part of Fingal County Council Arts Office’s Professional Development Programme, supporting creative networks ahead of the opening of the Swords Cultural Quarter and Culture House in 2027.
Our sincerest thanks to Linda Shevlin, Síle Stewart and Gary Keegan for their very generous support in realising this masterclass.
