Audio Recording of ARTIST FILM AND THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT: AEMI in conversation with IndieLisboa International Film Festival Programmer Anastasia Lukovnikova.

As part of this year’s edition of the Dublin International Film Festival, aemi presented ARTIST FILM AND THE FESTIVAL CIRCUIT, an in-conversation event between aemi co-director Alice Butler and  IndieLisboa International Film Festival Programmer Anastasia Lukovnikova.

Taking place at The Complex on February 23rd 2025, the conversation explored opportunities on the film festival circuit for first person, independent, artist, experimental and analogue filmmakers. The event was designed to de-mystify the role of the film festival programmer and offer a clear understanding of festival structures and how films are selected. Discussion also focussed on the strengths and shortcomings of festival exhibition and other ways to get your work seen through DIY programming, stand alone events and installation.

Anastasia Lukovnikova is a programmer and a film researcher based in Lisbon. Since 2019, Anastasia has been part of the team at IndieLisboa International Film Festival. She is currently the festival programmer for the International Feature Film Competition, having contributed to the selection of multiple festival sections over the years. Since September 2024, Anastasia has been pursuing her Ph.D. research with a focus on collaborative practices in film programming. She was a fellow at the 2021 edition and a participant in the 2023 and 2024 editions of Doc’s Kingdom International Seminar on Documentary Cinema (Portugal), as well as an online participant in The Flaherty Film Seminar 2022 (US).
