researchMATTERS is Trinity College Dublin’s online research platform. Earlier this summer Dr Sarah Cullen interviewed Alice Butler and Daniel Fitzpatrick for the blog, to discuss the work of aemi and our collaboration with The Arts Technology Research Laboratory (ATRL).
The Arts Technology Research Laboratory (ATRL), Trinity’s arts and technology facility bringing together film, music, sound production, live art and installation, is host to various events from aemi (Artists’ & Experimental Moving Image), the Dublin-based arts initiative that supports and exhibits experimental works by visual artists and film-makers. This productive new partnership stemmed from an invitation to aemi from Trinity’s Dr. Sven Anderson, who heads up the innovative M.Phil in Digital Arts and Intermedia Practices.
Dr Sarah Cullen is an Irish Research Council-funded PhD graduate from Trinity College Dublin specialising in 19th-century American prose, night studies, and gothic literature. Alongside lecturing in American literature at UCD, she works as an editor and research communications writer for TCD’s Office of the Dean of Research, translating complex academic research into public features. Beyond academia, she is a prominent, Rotten Tomatoes-approved film critic who writes for Film Ireland and HeadStuff, and curates specialised arts events celebrating women in horror cinema.
