Published date: 04 Jul 2025
On the 24th February 2025 aemi hosted an event at the Arts and Technology Research Lab with film artist Jenny Brady, who presented her work and discussed her unique and holistic approach to captioning and audio description. Jenny was joined by Elaine Lillian Joseph with whom she has collaborated on her films Receiver (2019), Music for Solo Performer (2022) as well as the forthcoming The Glass Booth (2025). Together they discussed their working relationship, the benefits of making accessibility an intrinsic part of any creative process and how their way of working together has evolved over time.
The session was recorded to allow for wider dissemination and includes closed captions.
Jenny Brady (b. 1983) is an artist based in Dublin, working with the moving image to explore ideas around translation, communication and the relationship between sound, speech and meaning. Her films have screened across Ireland and extensively at international film festivals including Projections at the New York Film Festival, Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival, EMAF and Experimenta at London Film Festival.
In this session Jenny was joined by audio describer, captioner, linguist and co-founder of SoundScribe Elaine Lillian Joseph with whom she has collaborated on her films Receiver (2019), Music for Solo Performer (2022) as well as the forthcoming The Glass Booth (2025).
This event was designed for aemi’s Tier 2 artist programme with a very limited number of spaces are open to the public.
