aemi @ CIFF: Kevin Jerome Everson Masterclass

aemi’s international artist in focus at CIFF 2023 was the acclaimed and prolific filmmaker Kevin Jerome Everson. This masterclass offered audiences an in-depth introduction to the artist’s influences and methodology. Having been trained in photography and engaged also in printmaking and sculpture, before turning to the medium of analog film in the late 1990’s, Everson has carried over the approach of creating bodies of work shaped around particular formal devices within his filmmaking practice. Here he discussed the processes, procedures and materials used in his moving image practice over the past two decades. He also discussed the recurring subjects, themes and formal strategies represented in the work.
